Graph

Yesterday our class expanded on digital graphs and how to easily create them electronically. We made our first graph as a class about the average rainfall in NZ. We had to make sure we were inserting the Data correctly so the Chromebook could generate the Data into a graph. The simplest way to show this Data  was a bar graph as it clearly showed the rainfall in each place. There are different varieties of graphs demonstrating data in very different ways. I really enjoyed creating this graph because of the many choices you get even though its made digitally. you even get to chose the colour of the background and bars.

Redwoods

Fragrant emerald Foliage studded with brown stumps towered above the swinging platforms.

Murky clouds hung low in the sky, their thick shadow eclipsing any spec of light.

Hovering birds sing their harsh chorus as they twirl back home.

Small diamond droplets fell soundlessly onto the gawky wooden platforms. Verdant leaves rustled as the cold flurry rounded them up.

Should school start later in the morning ?

I strongly disagree that school should start later in the morning .

Firstly this will gain us nothing as there would still be the usual school hours and where we might have extra time in the morning it will cut into our afternoon.

Secondly this might effect bus’s as if different schools start at different times in the morning the bus may have to do several pickups or some kids might not even get the chance to hop on the bus causing problems.

Lastly I do see some potential in school starting later in the morning because you might get more sleep or time to get ready for school, but I still strongly disagree school should start later in the morning .

Do you agree?

Ancient Marshmallows

Today we did a collaborative task of making a stable tall  structure that could stand by themselves in groups ,but we first  read about ancient Structures like Parthenon  and how it had the  stability to stand through Earthquakes and many, many  years of age till modern time. So we decided to test our Marshmallow and spaghetti made  structures by making small earthquake effects on the structure to see how strong it truly is.

Making the marshmallow structures was no piece  of cake. We had to make sure we were all sticking to the same plan and not going all over the place.  We all communicated , planned and created the sticky structure as it grew in size and decreased in stability. Eventually A great structure grew in front of our eyes.

The next step was seeing if this pyramid-like structure would stand an earthquake. ‘RATTLE RATTLE’.

The structure stood strong even though it leaned and went all over the place, it was like Parthenon that moved like an elastic band. When it leaned back,it came right back.

This was a great task that we had accomplished!!

My $200 Note

We did some creative work on a $200 Note. We first learnt about the money in NZ, important people on it  and how it had changed over the many years . We now had the task of creating unique notes. We had to choose a worthy inspirational NZ Navigator to put on our Note. I Chose Captain James Cook.

I think Captain Cook is worthy to be on a $200 note because Captain Cook charted NZ using the  running survey. He literally put NZ on the map, only making 2 mistakes.

On the back of the Note I put a Silver eye bird as it means “God alerts us to the dangers of falsehoods in spirit and truth” tying In with Captain Cook. I also put the Pohutakawa tree because many can grow near the coasts that  Captain Cook also navigated around to map New Zealand
